Chinese Education and Background

Here is how I came to speak and read Chinese so well.

• Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
• Started studying Chinese in high school in 1998.
• Studied Chinese language and culture as part of my Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Alberta, where I majored in International Business with a focus on China.
• Studied Chinese language and culture in a "term abroad program" in Nanjing University.
• Met my wife Pearl. Neither of us spoke each others' languages very well at that point. She taught me more than any class ever did!
• Lived and worked in Nanjing, China on and off for three years.
• Worked and volunteered in a variety of positions to further my abilities to 'connect' Chinese and Western businesses with their clients. The functions I performed include sales, marketing, online marketing, market research, trade, purchasing, interpretation, teaching, training, negotiation and consulting.
• Obtained the HSK Intermediate certificate which states my Chinese is at least good enough to attend a Chinese university with the rest of the Chinese students.
• Translated material on a variety of subject matters for translation agencies across the globe and continue to do so.
