Runes of Magic
One of the video game projects that I work on, Runes of Magic, is what's called a "massively-multiplayer online role-playing game, or MMORPG for short. If you don't know what that is, it's like World of Warcraft. I'm one of the Chinese-to-English translators on the team so I translate quests, character names, items, instructions, etc. Unlike most of what I translate, I am actually permitted to talk about this one. :)
The English version of Runes of Magic has seen great success so far. As of October 2009, the number of account registrations has exceeded 2 million. "Runes of Magic has become a mega-seller in the few months since we launched. The 2 million registrations milestone we have now hit is yet further proof of the quality of our game and our communication strategy", commented Rolf Klöppel, Director of Marketing & PR for Frogster Online Gaming.
I'm glad to do my part in making the game successful. Plus, game translation is definitely up there on the "fun scale." It feels rather natural since I've been playing video games for almost my entire life.
The cinematic trailer for the first chapter.
I translated tons of quests, items and character names for the "Elven Prophecy" chapter. Anybody need a Chinese-to-Elven translator?
